After eating Maggiano’s for lunch, I went for a much needed run this afternoon with just Harrison in tow. Everyone else was napping, so I put him in our double bob and headed out with some music and my garmin. He’s only 17.5 pounds and while the stroller felt so light, it wouldn’t go straight, since there wasn’t weight in the other side where Steele normally sits. Next time, I’ll put a 12 pack in the empty seat!
Working out while not feeling well has been quite hard the past couple days. 3 miles yesterday and 2 miles today aren’t going to make me a better runner, but I know it’s better than nothing.
The boys are on spring break with me this week, so while I have a horrible cold and just want to sleep, (thank you boys for sleeping 11.5 hours last night and I got 9 hours myself!) I can’t help but want to make sure they have a fun week with mommy. Bowling, chuckie cheese and the Brookfield and Milwaukee Zoos are just a few of the fun things we are doing throughout the week.
Blogging has taken a backseat these days as Jeff has been traveling and gone 3 nights each week for 2 plus weeks. The boys are troopers about going to the gym, but I feel two weeknights of hauling them to the gym is plenty. The rest of the week I plan out when/where I am going to find time to get my runs/workouts in.
Today, I met Lisa, my co-worker for a 6 mile run before we started our days at school (work). I am usually not a morning runner, as anything before 8am is too early, but having 6 miles in and then the whole day ahead felt great! We ran a 10 minute pace throughout the run and then got back to work to get ready for the day.
Tmrw is bosu, followed by small group weight training. (I hate lifting, I just can’t make myself do, so I signed up for a 30 minute class that meets every Friday foe the next month. Saturday the whole family will go to the gym and Sunday I plan to run with my running group and play indoor soccer in the evening. People always ask how do I found the time for my workouts and I tell them, I plan them out a week in advance and rarely change up my weekly workout plan.
Why are Sunday evenings so enjoyable? Co-ed indoor soccer- I get a fantastic workout in, while playing my favorite sport. I’ve been back to playing, since the twins were about three months, but can honestly say I’m truly back now. I can run sprints, make passes, play great defense, and keep up with my opponents with ease now. I come home feeling great knowing I ended the week with an amazing workout.
Finding time to exercise while flying solo this week
I came home from New York early Monday, while Jeff stayed for business and wasn’t home till late last night. Being a “Single Parent” for 4 nights still wasn’t going to slow me down. People ask, “How do you find the time?” Well, it’s a priority for me, so I make time in my busy days. Here’s what my week looked like:
Monday-play with kids, head to gym, run 3 miles, take my hour boot camp class, (Down 2 pounds), come home get all three kiddos ready for bed and feeling okay.
Tuesday-work all day and just want to spend the evening with my boys, so I run 4 miles during my lunch. Waste 40 minutes sitting in the teacher’s lounge or 40 minutes outside getting a workout in? You decide!
Wednesday-parent/teacher conferences at work till 5, run another 4 in between teaching and conferences, then sprint to the gym to make my tennis class-two lessons in. I never knew tennis had so many rules.
Thursday-another long day of parent/teacher conferences. Wont be home till almost 7, so run 5 miles in between conferences. In bed at 9pm-exhausting week
Today-I’m off work, so I can make my 9:15 bosu class and then hang out with the boys all day.
Picture of the boys after class-Harrison is ready for a nap, Steele is hanging out, and Michael is happy to steal my crystal light.
Chicago Marathon closes in record time!! It’s crazy to me that I was logging onto my computer during my lunch last Wednesday to make sure I had a spot in the 35th annual Chicago Marathon. I ran Chicago for the first time in 2002 when I was student teaching, 22 years old and barley a runner. Note-I didn’t sign up until August in 2002.
Now, 10 years later I’m a teacher, married with 3 adorable little boys, and running Chicago for the 6th time! People think I’m crazy for wanting to do this time and time again, but the fulfullment and emotions I get around mile 23 or 24 makes each time more memorable and I have the urge to do it all over again.
This fall I am stepping outside the box and running the For Valley Marathon three weeks before Chicago as well. I plan to run one for fun and hopefully hit my 4:15 goal for the other. Stay tuned as my adventures in “Running after Babies” continues!
Taking time to enjoy life! Today we had our first professional family photos taken. The babies are now 6 months and Michael is 3.5.
The boys will be joining me in their BOB for some long runs this spring/summer as I have decided to run 2 marathons this fall!!
My 2012 List of to do’s!!!
Instead of saying, I am going to lose 10 pounds or I am going to quit eating sweets, I decided to write out some goals. These are all things I know I can achieve and plan on checking them off throughout the year!
1. Run a 4:15 marathon
2. Take Michael to Disney World
3. Go to a movie by myself
4. Go to the art museum (I’ve lived here 9 years now and haven’t been!)
5. See a musical
6. Get my blog up and going (no more excuses!)
7. Run a 5k in 25 minutes (25.51 in 2010 has been by best)
8. Take tennis lessons (Jeff and I start lessons next Wednesday)
9. Have confidence in wearing a swimsuit (This will be my hardest one)
10. Read a classic novel (I love my magazines)
